Useless investigations coming in the House

This is the kind of thing we have to look forward to when Dan Issa takes over the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

800 billion spent to date 4500 US soldiers dies in a war started under false premesis, do we investigate that? No. Let's spend a lot of time with Obamas ties to Google. It's the ham sandwich indictment theory so we can get headlines on Fox News, "Obama under investigation."

What's laughable about this schill group is the quote below, yet they never investegated it.

"Like Halliburton in the previous administration, Google has an exceptionally close relationship with the current administration," the letter says.

Here's their list of prior investigations. Note the pattern. Obviously nothing to find in Bush admin 2001-2008

NLPC Accomplishments

1993- NLPC successfully sued Hillary Rodham Clinton’s secret health care task force to open its meetings and records. In their 2003 books, both Hillary and Sidney Blumenthal acknowledged NLPC’s role in sinking her plan.

1996- NLPC exposed then-FDA Commissioner David Kessler for overbilling on his expense reimbursements. Kessler resigned soon after. In his 2001 book, Kessler said NLPC “brought me as close to despair as I have ever been.”

1999- NLPC broke a scandal involving the taxpayer-funded Legal Services Corporation (LSC), which was grossly inflating the number of cases it claimed it to handle.

2003- NLPC exposed the Boeing Tanker Deal Scandal, eventually sending two Boeing executives to jail, and saving taxpayers at least $4 billion.

2004- As a result of NLPC Complaints filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), Al Sharpton was fined $5,500 and forced to return $100,000 in presidential campaign matching funds.

2004- Two PACs associated with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) were fined $21,000 as a result of an NLPC Complaint to the FEC.

2005- The New York Stock Exchange ended its support for Jesse Jackson’s groups after NLPC protests.

2006- NLPC exposed cozy financial dealings between Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-WV) and recipients of his earmarks. Mollohan resigned as Chairman of the Ethics Committee.

2007- Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) sold back land to a developer a day after NLPC alleged in a Complaint to the Senate Ethics Committee that the original sale was a “sweetheart” deal.

2009- Al Sharpton was fined $285,000 by the Federal Election Commission as a result of an NLPC Complaint for running an “off the books” presidential campaign.

2008 - present NLPC exposed House Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel’s failure to report or disclose rental income from his beach house in the Dominican Republic, cheating on his District of Columbia property taxes by falsely claiming a homestead exemption, and leading a Caribbean junket funded by Citigroup and other corporations in violation of House rules.

The Democrats had the House for four years. Shouldn't they have investigated Bush's "evidence" while they were in power? Why would you expect the Republicans to do it now?

Democrats are pussies, Republicans aren't.

A more accurate and 100% true thing to say is that Democrats put the well-being of the nation before bickering partisan politics, Republicans put the well being of the nation ahead of ..... well nothing I've seen so far. Pretty much when Republicans are in charge the well-being of the nation is that very last thing on their list. Hell, many of them have been coming out and saying thing after thing that's on the top of their list while in control of the House, and they're all partisan political bullshit that won't do a thing to help the country.

You don't think getting to the truth of the Iraq debacle is important to the country? From the way Democrats talk about it CONSTANTLY I'd think it was.

That's one of the differences in the brands. Why would we expect a new round of investigations now? Myabe because soon to be GOP chairs have been vowing to do so for weeks.

Welcome back to the witch hunts of the 90's, to be opening in subcommittee rooms starting late January, 2011. Jobs, jobs, jobs will be backburned, mentioned only when it coincides with further tax cuts for the wealthy-trickle down redux.

Pete Townshend was wrong-we will get fooled again.

Your post seems confused.

Yes, I have heard of Mr. Issa's intentions, but more on that later.

But why have you included info on the the NLPC? They are a 501(c)(3) watchdog organization, and as far as I can tell are not affiliated with Issa. While they appear to be a conservative leaning organization, they do not appear to be primarily partisan in nature. Ethics are not a partisan issue (in fact the NLPC appear to be based around some Code of Ethics promulgated by a Dem Congressman). I also see they have been on at least one Republican - Murkowski is on your list.

Now regarding Issa, the MSM, at least MSNBC, has made much of Issa's claim about his intentions to investigate many matters. I am often opposed to such efforts because IMO they are most often partisan affairs conducted for publicity and political points.

However, Issa has said his investigations will not be public affairs, so they cannot be the usual political circuses. He has also said that he does NOT believe the purpose of Congressional oversight is to attack political opponents (such as the White House), and that it shouldn't be used that way. So far so good.

I note that Jeffrey Toobin, a liberal Constitutional attorney frequently appearing on MSNBC, has said that before criticizing Issa we should give him a chance to see what he comes up with.

I agree with Toobin in this case.

If this new House occupies itself with witchhunts instead of getting to work I predict things will go badly for them.

But it's too soon to begin criticizing them for things that have not yet hapended.

Republicans: no jobs, sorry, but here are some investigations to keep you distracted.

You had no problem supporting useless investigations under the last congress... Pelosi's mosque funding investigation call is one that comes to mind.

People weren't distracted, and Democrats were punished.

a more accurate and 100% true thing to say is that democrats don't care about iraq and the countless dead as a result. It sounded good before the elections to club the republicans and get votes but they were dirty too. It's ok though because we can use the money spent on the war to justify any money we spend and that's what matters most. Bury your dead and stop whining.

Classy post on Veteran's Day.

Politicians and their parties should be excoriated for their part in things like this especially on veteran's day. They'll beat the drums and people will answer the call. When they do they had better be fighting for a damn good reason and if not then the pols need to make it as right as they can.

Neither Dems nor Reps give a crap about our soldiers, be we knew that.

The same old song and dance. Congress, Democrat or Republican controlled, cannot click their ruby slippers together and magically make jobs appear. When are you people going to get it?

This always cracks me up when people are talking politics. I am amazed that people are gullible enough to believe the government can actually do anything to create real jobs. The only thing they can do regarding jobs is destroy them. They have been good at that for decades.

Government jobs are not real jobs, they are merely dependents....dependent upon the rest of us with real jobs. The government is a consumer of wealth, not a creator. Another distinction many seem to overlook. Essentially the government is a leech albeit an essential one. The government has an important role, but that role has been way over stepped for so long with the result being our current predicament. People are stupid so the only real solution is for everything to completely crash so we can start fresh. It is coming to a country near you real soon.
