I couldn't agree more... it's a very poor financial decision to make... but I have repeatedly noticed people making poor financial decisions when it comes to cars. If he is going to be married soon, he also has other responsibilities to think about when it comes to such a big $$$.

It's his life though, so if he wants to work two jobs till he's well out of school to pay for the thing, more power to him.

Hope the wifey understands.

I talked about putting a $4K Stage III setup on my A4 and the GF did not like the idea one bit.

elemental, i wish i had a scanner, cuz i would scan my time slips, but most neons can hit 15 with just a few bolt ons, and there are 4 that i can think of that are running high 10's low 11's, with turbos and superchargers, of course.

I personally think valhalla should go with something smaller than a vette also. Val, does your fiance know you are buying a vette? And how does she feel about it?

Some clarification on why I call it a Fiero body kit.

1: The use the 2.8 V6, why else would anyone use a 2.8V6 unless the car it was based on used the 2.8 V6.
2: Looks about the right size
3: concievably someone could fit a 350 (TPI ot TBI) in a Fiero
4: Fiero body kits are reletively common
5: The price is about what you'd expect for a Fiero body kit+Fiero
6: The transmission options are exactly the same.

Valhalla...

With the sheer volume of comments you've made about the "panty dropping" effect of your vehicle, income, and lifestyle, it's no wonder people have the image they do of you. If that's not really you, why do you insist on propagating that image?

That having been said...

You took a second job so you could buy a Corvette? Goddamn, dude, get a second job and save for a down payment on a house. I guarantee you your fiance will find a house much more secure than a yellow Z06. You're devoting your life to a car. That's freaking nuts. Women need the feeling of security, it's in their nature. Don't make decisions that will endanger her security with you, or you might be forced to decide between a woman and a car.

okay you people have got this all wrong..

1) I'm not buying a new $50,000 Z06 Corvette.. I'm buying an older 98 or 99 Corvette, same body style but when I buy it (8-12 months) it won't cost me but $25k, plus I'll have saved up by then $10k PLUS I'll be able to sell my bird, so I won't hardly be financing much at all.

2) No way I'm buying a house and getting married right now, we've talked about this for years and we dont want to even come close to "settling down" until I've graduated and settled in a career while she finishes up medical school.. may not even get married until she's OUT of med school and working

Now I couldn't care less what image you have of me, I'm a nice guy as many of you know if you've ever talked to me in "private" throu PM's, etc. I joke about the panty-droppability factor of a car just because thats what its like for the average joe.. I mean, which car is hotter, a Corvette or a NEON. ?? come on, get real!

Also, I think its laughable you waste your money hopping up this Neon, WTF is the point? I don't understand why people buy $15k econojunkers and drop tons of money making them catch up to the times a stock sports car could run for less money!

Also I didn't take a second job just to get my car, I took a second (and third) job because I WANTED to. I work from 4:30pm to 1:30 am 5 nights a week as a mainframe MVS/VM OS/390 mainframe computer operator.

My second job requires no investment of my time unless either something breaks or its upgrade time - I'm the network admin and hardware/software consultant for a local business, I get salaried from the job but I don't go in unless they page me that something's broke (less than once a month). Its a nice secondary income plus it gives me more experience in the IT field to help better secure my future.

Since when does working hard for a living suddenly brand someone as stupid and worthy of 20 people's flames? honestly, is it jealousy or what?

lets see, i'm realistic, so i buy a car i can afford... or... i have to stroke my ego, so i get a vette. I'll take option 1.

I paid $6k for my car with 20k miles on it. I have put in about $300 in mods, and so i am up to $6300. So by your math, a new firebird, camaro, or mustang all cost $6300 running low 11's.

I've brought this up several times - decide where you are continuing your education at before you buy anything like that. If you do plan on going to Austin, say hello to the sixteenth highest cost of living in the country and that does factor in insurance. Roads there suck ass as well.

Insurance is highly localized.

so you're saying no one in austin drives an exotic car just because the roads suck ass? come on..

as for cost of living, well I've already spoken with my the company I work for, they have an Austin datacenter even bigger than the one I work for here in San Angelo, and they've already told me I could double my salary by moving to Austin with my level of experience.. Austin is the #2 best place in the world to get a technology and IT job, behind only Silicon Valley, and with the skyrocketing energy costs in CA, I wouldn't be suprised to see Austin become the worlds technology hub.

you people act as if I'm spending my every last penny on a car.. I'm not! I can afford the insurance, cost of living, etc.. its like someone wins $1,000,000 lottery, so he goes out and buys a $1mil Mclaren F1, thats stupid..

why do you people care so much about what I'm doing with my life? jeez, get your own

guyver - well I'm flattered, at least I can count on you to politely disagree with me now and then and not bash my personal life choices, which no one here knows anything about..

my personal financial situation warrants me to afford the things I buy.. people speak of Audi A4 people living at home just so they can afford the mods to their cars.. spending your last cent on things isn't smart.

but if you've got savings squared away, living expences cinched, and you have spare money, what the hell is the point of making it if you can't enjoy it?

not all 19 year olds have to drive ugly econoboxes because they can't afford anything else. :disgust: :|

I agree... who cares what you drive.. YOU're driving it.. not me or anyone else. I took heat at school and work because i could afford to drive Camry's and Avalons while everyone else was driving their triple-used car..

hell.. i just bought a new SUV while a few people at work are on their 4th or 5th used trade-in.. but hey... i aint gonna drive like poverty to satisfy anyone's underinflated ego.

True, and some are smart enough to do it because they want to, to put their money into other things.

Even if you don't plan on getting married & settling down right away, with the income you seem to have you could be preparing for the purchase of a house.

But then again, it's your decision. You make yours, I'll make mine.
