Ahhh...well IMO Camaro's and Firebirds are just rattle traps that people buy that want to be like everyone else. The only year Camaro I would even consider owning is a 1970 1/2 RS.

This thing supposably pulls a 4.4 in the 0-60.

Not bad for $38,000 :Q

vi_edit: you have to step up to the largest engine to get those performance numbers... and they add on more features when you get the larger engines, so the price would undoubtedly be much higher.

I bet the 176 HP version would REALLY suck and people would laugh at you. I wouldn't be seen dead in this thing - sure it would look cool until you tell people "No, its not a lamborghini its a Lear" and they're like "that loser wanted to look cool but couldn't foot the bill" it makes you look very sad :0

Oh apparently the 167 HP does 145 mph top speed and 0-60 in 6.5 I have trouble believing that.

Unless that thing's around 2500lbs, I highly doubt it'll hit that 6.5 0-60

<< As i recall valhalla, you announced that you what a yellow car, with loud sound system, etc cuz it gets women. Me thinks you have SPS small ____ syndrome =].

>>

I wanted a yellow Z06 Corvette because its the best performance car for under $80k you f*cking idiot.. and not because it gets women, because it would own whatever ricer piece of sh!t you drive. I am engaged to a wonderful girl, the girl stuff is for sh!ts and giggles.

and you're a freaking jealous i love you if you think people with exotic cars have small dicks. your mom certainly had a hard time with it last night, so it cant be that small.

also, I don't drive a V6 Camaro, I drive a V6 Firebird.. and I have the balls to say what I drive and prove it.. I'd love to see what you really drive (I'm sure you're going to reply saying you drive some badass riced up civic, but I'd love to piss on what you REALLY drive). And I didn't buy my car to go fast.. I bought it because I was 18, working full time, going to college full time, and I couldn't afford a Trans Am V8. so I bought it and dropped a competition stero system in it, I don't race it.

but I have since gotten promotions and a second job, so I will buy a 98/99 C5 Corvette Coupe in the next 8-10 months, as soon as I finish paying of my Firebird..

continue to flame me all you want little boy.. I started this thread for discussion of this Lear car I stumbled upon, but some ricer always has to come in and start a flame war.

Fine by me.

Vallhalla....

Prozac man.... Prozac.

Seriously... you obviously have strong feelings about the cars you like... but if you don't want to get flamed for it, don't post on every thread about how the C5 and C6 "own all". I agree, they are great cars for the money... but different people have different ideas of "great car". Hell, SVTPower thinks that his SVT Lightning will hang with an M3 at the track... now that guy needs a dose of reality.

Valhalla, i'm 18 too, i paid for my own car, i had sense to buy something that wouldnt rape me in insurance. 1996 Neon. last time slip i have was 15.1 1/4 mile. Not bad for a 4cyl. You stated TWO different times that you wanted a loud car for a loud personality, translation: "Look at me guys, look at me!!"

I pay for my college also. 20k a year in tuition and i can still say i pay for my own crap.

And you put a competition stereo in, what did that cost, $3000? coulda used it to buy a real engine for a muscle car.

In my eyes, no 6cyl. mustang, camaro, or firebird should be raised to any platform, cuz they are they so people can drive really "pretty" cars without the speed and fear of doing something stupid.

<< I bought my car for its looks and panty-droppability factor >>

<< its a loud color that would fit my personality perfectly >>

<< the panty dropping is a nice side effect of being young and having money >>

<< talk about a dream come true. Loud exhaust, loud color, loud system in the back, for a loud-personality guy like myself. >>

Those all came from you in this thread

Now what were you saying about not wanting to be seen or get girls, i see 2 references to women and 2 about being loud like you.

Also, everytime someone critizes you, its "you stupid ricer." Its kinda funny. You really are insecure about your vehicle.

how am I insecure about my vehicle? I talk openly about my car, not hiding it ashamed or something. I love my car, its a dream come true..

you say 6yl pony cars are just for people can drive "pretty cars"?

well what the hell did you buy a 2 liter 4cyl econobox for? and you go and race the thing? " I think people who buy them are scared of a real powerful car or too poor to afford a sports car". Not what I really think, but thats what you are accusing me of. You do your thing, I do mine. why are you wasting both of our time by flaming me for my car?

all these people talk about how BMW's and Ferrari's are the best, but these are cars that 99% of the people on this forum could never afford. I talk about realistic cars! So realistic that I will own them myself in the near future.

I bought my car because I had to have a nice system in it, I am an extreme audiophile and I have to have it.. I couldn't afford a V8 and a badass system both, so I got a V6. Plus insurance on the V8 @ 18 years old would be too much.

<< pay for my college also. 20k a year in tuition and i can still say i pay for my own crap.
>>

congratulations, join the club.

I also said in another thread that my comments are joking, considering I have a long time girlfriend who I will be marrying. not to mention I have smilies and other things to denote jokingness. why don't you go find the thread where I explained this, since you have so much time on your hands to look into everything I post for some reason. I bought my car because it looks good, but thats not the only thing I care about, why would I always post about high performance V8 cars like fbodies and Corvettes and how they outperform anything anywhere close to it in price? that just doesn't make sense.

and I do have a loud personality. so what?? I'm not deying that, where does this argument fit in the equation?

I don't know you, you don't know me. I don't really care what you drive or what you like, but just because you don't like what I drive or like doesn't mean you have to go find something to flame me on, what did I ever do to you?

get a life, go find something to do besides researching my entire posting history to bring up just to crap my threads about a totally different topic.

its really flattering to have someone take the time to do a detailed personal history of me, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy

go away.

it wasnt detailed, it took all of 5 minutes. That all came from one post.

I bought my car cuz i knew i could afford it. I paid for it, and am proud to smoke 6 cylinder pony cars all day long. I could race you, and win. I race in autoXing also, and consistently come in the top 5 out of 50-75 cars.

I made the point earlier that this lear car is just a ripoff of the real thing. You took offense to that. You are the one who needs to go away.

For all we know, both of you could be pimply faced 16 year olds driving mom's minivan to school. The point is Internet flaming is pretty pointless...

In Val's defense, that's great for you. Unfortunately that may be due to the some, what, 200 pounds of audio he said he had in it?

It's hard to have a car that can both do car audio and race. You do one, he does the other. You can't really compare them now can you? So quit trying to.

<--- drives an Econobox 98 ford contour and is happy with it (until he goes off to college).

iamwiz82 -

After reading over your replies several times, I am having a hard time trying to comprehend the sheer idiocy of your posts.

Let me run down what I can see now:

1) You drive a 96 Dodge Neon with a 4 banger. Yet, you're critisizing him because he has a newer V6 Firebird and he didn't get a V8 Trans Am?

Hmm let me look at your deep thought process here. Any way you look at it, you drive an econobox and he drives a sporty firebird. You brag about a 15.1 quarter mile; not only do I have a hard time believing a Neon can hit those speeds without fallin apart, but a V6 fbody has much more potential. Want proof? When I go home I'll scan my friend chad's pink slip - 1/4 in 14.895. I would look for site references but I'm too lazy to right now.

Second, I am a teenager in northcentral Texas. Specifically, Dallas area. When I was inquiring about insurance, my dad was quoted $5,000/yr for a V8 Camaro. Collision/near-minimum liability. It all depends on where you live too. The cost of these cars where I live is unbelievable. Just because you drive a V6 Fbody doesn't mean you don't care about performance; especially comparing it to your car, they have as much if not more "racing" potential. What it does mean is that there is simply no way a normal teenager can afford a V8 fbody (especially a Camaro) on his own wages. It's a waste of money too.

And you know what? At least he HAS an image to go along with his car. A 96 econobox is not the image I want and I'm only in high school and you're in college. You may have performance edge on the drag strip but what is the point? When you're off the strip the other six nights of the week he'll come off as having a better, more wealthy image for an 18 year old.

Elemental007,

I normally respect you as a rather sane member of this forum, but this time I think you've delved into the same sort of character assassination that is so common on the board.

iamwiz didn't necessarily do any better.... but somewhat in his defense, Vallhalla has been posting this drivel about how great muscle cars are for quite a long time.

If you don't want to be attacked, don't wear a target, I guess.

Vallhalla ... your a teenager and your going to buy a very expensive muscle car... props to you.. I drove POS's until well after college. For me, having some financial stability and owning a house was more important than getting a hot car... but everyone has different priorities... there are guys on the A4 board who basically live with their folks so they can get the latest mods for their cars, or upgrade it to an S4... shame on them.

iamwiz ... you are being sensible and driving something affordable... props to you for being sensible... the Neon IS a pretty fast car... a guy with some minor mods on one smoked my older car, a 97 Integra GS-R.... I wasn't really pushing it but he was definitely pulling down 0-60 times of under 7.5 secs.

neither of you guys is "wrong".

To get back to the topic (ahem. . .), the Lear website says the car costs $49,000 with the V-8 (it is unclear which of its features are standard and which are options, so for the sake of argument let us presume everything is standard).

This puts this goofy poseur of a car, with its one-year warranty (which I suppose is honored by, er, your local Bad Boyz dealer) and totally unproven engineering and build quality, into the price range of a Z06 or an M3. Those cars will both hold their value remarkably well, have world-beating reputations for engineering and handling, have reasonable warranties and good dealer networks, and are generally known to be well-made and reliable. $50K would also buy a very fresh used NSX or even a decent used M5.

The Lear is a good deal because . . . ?

Playing Devil's Advocate here, I personally discourage Val from getting a vette. Why? Is a Camaro not enough for him right now? He was talking about transferring to UT Austin where the roads are far worse than most other metropolitan areas and his insurance rates will skyrocket from his small (comparison wise) West Texas school.

There's a difference from having a nice car (prelude, camaro, firebird, etc.) and having a car that is a sunk investment (vette, BMW) at his age.
