Used processor, motherboard beeping before I turn the power on

I have a FIC k7mnf-64 with an Athlon 1800+ processor in it. I bought a used 2800+ 333mhz and put it in today.

Immediately after I connected the computer's power cable the motherboard started beeping and a red light on the motherboard came on. The beep's were LONGlongLONGlong so alternating long beeps. I looked the beeps up.

I have an "Award-Phoenix" bios (does that make sense at all?). I could not find any info related to what the beep issue was. I could not turn on the power, the motherboard would not allow it with that processor in.

I cleared the CMOS, upgraded the bios and still that did not fix the problem.

Any ideas? Is the processor dead?

The motherboard probabyl doesn;t support that cpu.....
Agreed. Back then, each different cpu revision had to be supported by the motherboard. And with an FIC motherboard, it's almost a certainty, unless the BIOS that you installed said it supported whichever type of XP 2800 that you bought.

the 2800+ is a "axda2800kv4d".

which makes it a barton socketA 2800+ 333mhz?

I have pc2700 RAM by the way.

Here's the CPU's my motherboard supports. It should be supported right?
