galaxy s9 plus for 270 looks like best choice but not sure (seems like galaxy are best used because so many people have them and upgrade them)

they have a galaxy s7 for verizon currently and are OK with it.

Maybe an LG V40 if you find one and they're into the unique features it'd have (triple camera, with ultrawide and 2x zoom notably, and the ability to hack the Google processing onto it so you could get Night Sight; 3.5mm headphone jack). I don't believe the display has the issues that the V30 (and Pixel 2) did, although I'm sure the S9's display is probably better. Samsung is better about updates though, and LG's quality has been spotty although I don't think there's been any glaring issues with the V40. I believe the V40 wasn't great on battery life either. The LG G6, G7, and V30/30+/35 might also be options, although they have less to warrant them over the V40 and arguably have outright flaws.

There's some other possibilities (if its an option, should be able to get a deal for a new Pixel 3a), but I can't think of too many of them.

Is storage degradation a thing to be concerned about with used/renewed phones? There isn't alot of storage on phones relative to pc's so the flash storage on phones probably get more worn down.

worn down from what? filling it with photos over and over? sorry i don not think the internal memory of a phone is the thing to worrry about. The lcd / battery will most likely go out before the internal storage slows anything noticeable (but hell maybe im 1000% wrong :) but i buy Every phone used since 2010?) No point in paying top $$ and having contract to not get screwed on the price, galaxy s9+ are less then 300 now (purchased 3 so far first sep 2018-400$ then January 2019 for 350 then last week for 250. All work great with tiny crack on backside of phone.

I feel like i can drain the battery from one heavy days use. (making video's or downloading torrents uses a lot)

The problem of phones slowing down over time and not improving even after a factory reset is not uncommon and points to the flash storage degrading.
When my own phone was stuttering, I tried a storage benchmark and it looked slow. So yes, filling up the phone with data like pictures, podcasts, videos will wear it down.

what phone?
used for how long and your one and only example? i know people that still use note 4 samsung (i know because i purchased new batteries for them) the phone is still working fine/great )sotheysay( . SO i guess i can benchmark a few galaxy s7's my boys have abused the hell out of. I cant even find the galaxy s9 plus nand speed on a review (looked a few mins) or i would bench a few of those as well. Have a iphone 7 256gb that have been using a few years still running strong. I think maybe you are thinking of very old phones but prove me wrong with some evidence. im very interested.

EDIt: ran a test on galaxy s9 plus 640mb/s read 106mb write? (maybe 90% full?) perhaps a full factory restore would speed it up? i cant remember if i rebooted and ran it again or not ;) but i have a fair amount of things installed 15 apps? i googled a review and it was identical. (the galaxy was purchased used last year in September used heavily photo and video. I think its a silly thing you are just pranking me on :) they are similar to a ssd in lifespan.
