Used Monitors

Are they a good deal?

I see plenty of used, high-quality monitors around, and I always pass them by. You can't tell how many hours are on it by looking at it. A used HP 21" for $278.00.

So you plug it in at the store, and the screen looks good. But how long will it last?

I don't imagine there's any restoring a monitor, is there?

Any comments on used monitors?

to repair them usually costs more money then buying a new one, unless you know someone who'll do it cheap. A used monitor you take chances with but usually they last for a long time. My dad's Sony trinitron is 7 years old and still going strong. Refurbished monitors are usually a good buy because they are made like new at the factory and then sold for less.

I'm currently using a second 19" Dell screen which I got at a bargain price nearly 12 months ago. It was classed as used because it has a virtually invisible tiny scratch on the screen...its a great screen and still going strong...a bargain.

I wouldn't trust a used monitor, especially since monitors are so cheap now. Many monitor problems are intermittant enough that you will not see them right away. A friend of mine bought a used 21" which started to flicker about 3months after he got it. It really is a matter of luck if you get a dependable one or not.
