Used M5 or New Loaded 1M?

Those are strange cars to cross-shop - they're wildly different in size and intended usage. Personally I have always been uninspired by the E60, and since I enjoy the occasional track day I'd take the 1M.

Why are you comparing two completely different cars? Surely one of those is a closer fit for you than the other. I really don't understand this thread.

08+ are nice. That's after the minor change. There were a bunch of small (but nice) improvements.

Nice that it has comfort access (keyless entry & start). Looks like it has the HUD too, though hard to tell from those tiny pictures. Not crazy about the 6-speed, since the 7-speed is a better match to the characteristics of the engine.

The M5 will be bigger, more comfortable, and faster in the straight line. The 1M will handle better, and be more fun in the corners.

I guess it really depends on what's important to him.

Obviously the M5 is a sweeter ride but if your buddy doesn't have the spare money for maintenance and repairs (if he keeps it long enough), then the M1 is the less expensive way to get an M. The M5 definitely says "balla" more than the M1 🙂

1 M....not even a competition in my book.

I don't care if it doesn't have a "bespoke" engine. It is a smaller, lighter M3 with more torque and a manual transmission that was actually meant for the car (vs. the few manual M5's that are out there).

Do people buying 1 series know they make those in adult sizes as well?

I don't get this comment for two reasons:

1) Why buy a bigger car than you need. I'd rather have smaller, more nimble if I don't need extra space. There is plenty of room in the front two seats of the 1 Series.

2) What "adult size" car has the N54 with over-boost, M3 suspension/breaks, M3 wheels, M Differential, etc.?

Well, since I doubt he could get a 1m at this point I suppose m5. Although the m5's will be a good bit more expensive to own. I think I'd probably go for a compromise and get a newer m3 sedan.

That's too much for a used M5. I'd lease the 1M (if he can get one) and pocket the difference. And if he's going to lease the 1M, for not much more he can get an M3.

1M!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Freaking 135 is my dream car. I had the chance and didn't take it, but then again, I don't have 1-series car payments either. 🙂

if the price is in the same ballpark they arent that different as both a nicer cars that are 'sporty'

but this has been explained to you in other threads so I am guessing it still not going to take

I would cross-shop both cars. It has to be the M5, though, that V10 is immense.

At the end of the day you're not really going to be able to fully excerise the 1M's agility on most public roads, let alone the grid road setup in America lol, so that shouldn't always be a deciding factor.

I would take the 1M. Not for $90k though lol.

get the 1M, its a new car, its a limited production (1000 coming to the states) and will not depreciate. if u can still get a 1M, get it!!!

That can't be serious. Only the limited quantity makes the car unique, but a Dinan M3 could be had for less.

It's my local BMW dealer. They pulled the listing before I can check it out for myself. I don't know if somebody actually bent over and bought the car or they took it off from embarrassment of the story going around.

Never been here, I take it?
