Used CPUs and OC'ing

Good idea or bad idea. I'm pretty sure it's not but I wondering if a chip that is used, but has never been OC'd could still be brought up, or if it would have burned it at the lower speed and therefore not work.

Unless it was mishandled, I don't see why it would be an issue. It's not any different than deciding to OC your CPU a couple years after you bought it.

I think good idea. It shouldn't make a difference if it's been running at stock for all its life. What chip are we talking about?

Athlon X2 939, at least a 3800+. Right now I have a 3200+ on a 9NPA+ Ultra board running at 2.5 stable, and it seems to be my RAM that is keeping me from 2.7. It will run, but fails prime95.

Hell my server is a duel Celeron socket 370 300mhz that has been running at 550 since 1999...

As long as the machine has been kept clean and cool it will be fine... (Usually.) :)
