Used cheap laptops.

I hate it when it does that.

Anyway, I am looking for a used laptop, around 14.1" screen, 128MB RAM (upgradable too 256MB) 500MHz processor, 16MB video, 5-10 gig HDD (upgradable to 30 gig or so). Is this possibel for under $300? Or maybe something better for $500?

Not for under 500 .. maybe not even for 500, unless it's a celeron or something .. I used to look around for used laptops and they're hard to find for a good price.

Indeed they are. I spend time looking on Ebay for laptops but they are all so expensive, and these things have like a 300MHz PII processor.

Igot a Sony Vaio K62-550 with 192 meg ram, dvd, 12 gig hd, for $572 shipped (Ebay after days of looking), but it had a bad battery (cost $150 on Ebay to replace, $250 new) I had a friend that got a Celeron 550 for $600 local used, and the battery worked (last week) They are still too spendy IMO. Good luck on your search, $500 is hard to get under for something worth having.

Yup. What you're askin for probably starts at ~$500. I picked up a Dell CPx w/500Mhz PIII, 128MB RAM, 10Gig HDD, 8MB Video, and a new battery for $600 off Ebay and it came with no OS.

Yeah, that's true. laptops are funny because they lose a ton of value in the first six months of ownership, but after that they their value remains fairly stable. Honestly, used laptops don't have the bang/buck ratio going for them at all (IMHO at least).

Now that I think of it, I will just get a good desktop, and forget about the laptop. The only people who really need one are people that travel on business. Desktop would work much better for me.
