Used car around $5-6k?

My girlfriend is thinking about getting a used car. Her budget would be around 5-6k. What seems to be a good choice to you guys? She's looked at some Integras but they are all 94 and 95's. She doesn't want to buy a civic or corolla since there are too many of them on the street.

Are dodge neons any good? There are pretty recent models out there for the price(97..98). Are they still considerable if over 100,000km?
