I asked a while back for how to test used 30" LCD's coz I was looking at a couple of LCD's locally. Thanks for your responses.

Now that I have found 2 that have perfect screens, I need help/suggestions in deciding between the two.

1) HP LP3065: The seller bought it refurbished from a lab, and there a scratch on the back of the monitor. Screen was fine though. The seller seemed like someone who knows "how to use a monitor". I know for a fact that he has used the monitor a fair bit playing poker. He's selling it for $500 local pickup.

2) Dell 3007WFP: The seller bought it new. The monitor is out of warranty now (just like the HP). He's selling the monitor because he's planning to use his macbook pro exclusively. He was a professional guy ~30yrs, and it seemed like he mainly used the monitor for spreadsheet work and movies. $600 local pickup.

Is the Dell 3007WFP worth the extra $100 since it was bought new? Or should I just keep the amount I invest to the minimum coz if the monitor fails the next day I'll have no recourse? I was thinking if the Dell was the HC version, it would be an easy choice but now I'm a bit confused.

-------------
Hi,

I'm going to go check out 2 used monitors tomorrow morning. First one the Dell 3007 (not sure if its the HC version yet), and the other the HP LP3065. Both are out of warranty, but the HP owner bought it refurbished (hence its costing me $100 less for me).

What all should I look for in the monitor? I mean the simple things I know are:
- check for back light bleeding with a full black background and dimmed external lights
- flash different colors to check for dead/stuck pixels!
- what else?

Any help is appreciated.

Also if you have any other opinions about these monitors, please do share!

Thanks a lot

Spend 30 minutes with each one doing what you normally do on a computer (watching pr0n could be a little problematic)^_^
...you'll soon see if either or both are suitable and are good displays.

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ ... the solution to all your testing needs.

Assuming you haven't gone already.
dang that link is awesome. A bit late though. I liked both the screens, I'm getting a good deal on both, thinking of buying them both lol

Looking at those screens .... damn how have I not switched to 2560x1600 already? Damn the real estate on those screens in UNBELIEVABLE.

Well, both are really good displays with very similar internals, with differences boing down to choices in internal electronics and firmware. I would just go for the one that has the asthetics that you like the best.

Dell has worse input delay, so if you plan on gaming I'd go with the HP.

The Dell seems to do more image processing to reduce pixel ghosting, but this means more frames are buffered than the HP.

hey aneesh, which town is this?
if you don't buy it, i'd like to.
NYC!!

I still can't decide if the Dell (the bezel definitely looks better) is worth the extra $100. Don't forget the 3007WFP unlike the HP LP3065 and the HC version of the 3007 isn't 92% color gamut.

a nice problem to have, but still I need to decide before the weekend ends!

They are both very good LCDs...i'd say go with the HP myself as i don't see the Dell being worth extra, especially as the HP has the extra DVI inputs IIRC.

The port count is important. If you have more than one digital input on one and only a single on the other, or a 2 vs. 3 count, go with the one that has the larger number of ports. You'd be amazed what a difference that can make for convenience.

I had the same decision a while back and chose the HP. The panels are the same IIRC but the HP has more input ports. It's been an excellent monitor.

I had the same choice in Feb and went with the Dell 3008 off Ebay. Looked at both the HP and the Dell for a while and went Dell because of the monitor aesthetics(beautiful) and the inputs(HDMI) and scaler. Loving the Dell(stunning PQ) and would never go back to anything smaller.
