The ultimate BMW M3:

This thread makes me ponder what to do next with my car.

As much as I'd love to do an engine swap in it. That same money could get me into even a late E46 M3. I have been looking at the Mercedes 500/55/600/etc coupes too...except all are automatic AFAIK.

Then the awesomeness of doing a Honda Element comes to mind. I used to fuck around on the road all the time, now my car tasks are going to work only 3 miles away or carting my dogs off to dog park 😉

Well, imo dogs and leather aren't a good mix. So that sorta limits you as to what you can do luxury-wise.

I dunno, I'd consider finding a 'junkyard' seat or something to install so your pup doesn't ruin the originals

Cover works reasonable well...they get harnessed in so it limits there movement already 🙂

The NAV can be updated to 3D perspective mode, which is very nice, the maps are the easiest update ever and the Intravee II IS made and available here:

They are the global supplier. In fact that's where I got mine a few years ago.

NAV in 3D mode:

Last time I read on the bimmerforums that Alpine unit is no longer available in the US period.. Maybe you can buy it international and risk tariffs etc?

Either way, I read on there that it doesn't charge the phone. I have an 08 m coupe. I don't understand why it's seemingly impossible to find a device that lets me charge, control with steering wheel buttons, and *maybe* show some info on the display.

I'm ready to just get the bmw kit. I really don't mind the BMW1 BMW2 etc playlist name requirements from itunes..

Oh and IMO that 3d nav is borderline ugly. Obviously last gen at least already. In 10 years it will look ancient.

I'm not saying it looks bad, it doesn't. It's just that I plan on keeping my car a long long time, so I feel like the 'business hd radio' or whatever is a better option.

I've never liked in-dash nav - I have an older Garmin that I bought refurb'd in 2008 and I love it. I've used integrated nav in an '07 Buick Lucerne and '10 Hyundai Genesis sedan and neither seem as easy and user-friendly as my Garmin. The Genesis told me to "return to the highlighted route" without providing directions how to get there..wtf. Sure, I could figure it out if I had to, but isn't that a point of a GPS - to make life easy? 😛

Try looking up from the GPS, there is a street sign 10 ft in front of you that will help you get back on route 😀

Price seems high. I picked up a 2002 in July for 16.5K with ~76K on it in very good condition with all maintenance records. Make sure the 1200 mile service was performed and that proper 10W-60 oil was used for each oil change. Also check when the scheduled inspections were done, specifically asking when the last time the valve adjustments were performed (this is pricey unless you do yourself). Also, ask when the tires were last changed as replacing the Michelin PS2's (which would be a crime to the car to put a different set on there) will be pricey.

PS2's are good, but there is other rubber out there that some prefer. I like my Asymmetrics over PS2 and the old GS-D3's I ran.

Cheaper tires though totally ruin most higher end cars and are part of the total package.

Too many people buy too much car and then start cutting corners on service.

I use Continental ContiSport Contact 2 M3 edition. OEM tyre specification and they're great. Last well (for this type of car) and grip very well.

Son of a bitch, no wonder that contisport contact 2 i got didn't match the other 3 on my car.
