Question Use Optane as RAM for scientific computing applications with MATLAB/Python?

Is there anyway to configure any of the Optane drives to be used as RAM? Is it something that needs custom code to utilize?
 
Intel sells a hypervisor called Memory Drive Technology that allows Optane SSDs to be used in a RAM-like fashion by telling the guest OS that the amount of RAM present is roughly the actual RAM capacity plus about 3/4 of the Optane SSD capacity. I'm not sure what it's doing under the hood that is any better than just using the Optane SSDs as swap devices.
