Use Logitech MX700 Forward/Back buttons to change songs in Winamp

I have a Logitech MX700 mouse, and I love the forward and back buttons of the side of the mouse. It would be really handy to be able to alt-tab to Winamp and hit the forward button for the next song, or back to restart the current song.

Are there any plugins out there that can handle this, or be configured to handle this? How hard would it be for me to write my own simple plugin to do this? I have basic/intermediate knowledge of C++ and Java, but I can copy paste and adapt very well.

I've always wanted a hotkey plugin that allows me to make two new hotkeys. One removes the currently playing song from the playlist, the other does what the first does and also deletes the song from your HDD. Very useful for a gamer who's got lots of new music to sort through (like when a friend gave me his entire collection over the network).

Yet I too have no idea how you make winamp plugins... what language or anything. EDIT: A quick look at the winamp site and it looks like you need to know C++ to write plugins.

What version of Winamp? I know in 5.x, you can enable "global hotkeys" that will let you press a certain key combination (while in any program in Windows) to, for example, go to the next or previous track. Perhaps you could look into mapping the side buttons on your MX700 to the hotkeys assigned to the next and previous global hotkeys in winamp.

Can't you just use the Logitech software? Assign those buttons to the keys "Z" and "B", which are previous and next track shortcut keys in Winamp. As long as winamp window is active, it will work.

But then they no longer work as forward/back in my browser.

Thought about it, but I can't find a way to separate back/forward in my browser and in Winamp. If I map to global hotkeys, browser back/forward doesnt work. If I make the global hotkeys Alt+Left/Right, then I change songs everytime I go forward/back in my browser.

I really think I need a plugin for this, any help of writing one?

OK, since I got no love from anyone about this, here's how I solved it: SWITCH TO iTUNES!

It recognizes the buttons on my mouse with no additional software. Cool!

LOL! I was just going to suggest that. :) iTunes has always been very good to me. I love the new "Find Duplicate Songs" option in 4.7.
