Hello guys, I was wondering if it was possible to use your laptop for processing and storage but use a desktop monitor for display?.... has anyone tried this.. is it possible without incurring a fortune in costs.

Yes it is possible based on your notebook. If you have a VGA port on your notebook then you can do so.
P.S: What ever happened to self help and DIY?

Yes. The monitor on my dad's old laptop cracked and he is running his computer this way now.

In fact, it is not a bad idea to keep an old laptop and use it just as a server box. Plug in monitor, keyboard and mouse and you are ready to go :)

I'm pretty sure every laptop has a VGA port on it. Some docking stations have DVI on them also. My main system is my laptop (In sig) and I'm using an external monitor with it. Great setup.

Every consumer notebook I have seen in the past 7 years has a VGA monitor port.
