my system was long gone. Kaspersky was doing its screaming
virus detection routine about once a minute.

so, in summary, i have learned, the OS is not installed until the
anti-virus software is installed.

i got an E6700 Core 2 Duo with the micro-ATX intel 965G
board. in an Aspire/Apevia X-Q Pack with the Seasonic
430 power supply & the short Samsung (I think) Lightscribe
DVD-RAM.

so now that it feels all nice and fast again i'm wondering if
i need to install Kaspersky Anti-Virus ? i already installed the
Norton Anti-Virus that comes with the intel MoBo.

The system is attached to a D-Link switch on a DSL line.

Using two active antivirus programs at the same time can cause clashes. Pick one or the other, and if you want the system more secure than either of them can make it, here's the game plan I'd suggest.

u can keep 2 av provided u diable one and use it only as a 'on-demand' scanner. i think kav and nod32 r among the finest, so u shud really consider sticking to kaspersky !

here is something i always advice:

"Having said this, these are 2 things I suggest after a Windows reinstall :
I suggest you download a 'good' Hosts file from mvps.org and replace your original hosts file situated in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc with this one and then lock it or make it a read-only file. HostMan is a good freeware Host manager.

I also suggest you use ZonedOut utility to Add, Delete, Import, Export, Build a Black/WhiteList and do More. It now includes Restricted, Trusted and Intranet Zones". It is an excellent too just 185kb. Then download IE-SpyAd For ZonedOut . Its is a simple registry patch that adds a long list of known porn-sites, cracksites, advertisers, marketers, and malware pushers to the restricted sites zone of IE. Using ZonedOut you can add this list easily.

Finish off by using a good security tweaker freeware like Vista-AntiSpy or XP-AntiSpy"

with this chances of ur machine catching an infection will be remote !
