I'm using PAgeplus prepaid on a 2007 WinMobile 6.1 smartphone w/o internet.
phone + txt = ~$9/month

there are times recently where google would have been very convienent.
i was also given the original Droid phone.

i'm thinking of upgrading to Pageplus's $12/month plan that includes a few megs of data.

i like the Droid because it has a physical keyboard.
use the free phone? or upgrade to a newer phone?

if upgrade, which cheap phone do you suggest?

I have 4 phones on PagePlus. My oldest son has an original Droid. It works well for him, and he is also on "The 12". He uses it almost exclusively on WiFi, which works well. The phone works fine. However, if you want to upgrade, and like the physical keyboard, look at the Droid 3. Much faster and smoother. If you can live with a touchscreen keyboard, that opens up your options. The Droid X and X2 are great, as is the Incredible1 and 2.

The Droid 3 has a 4" screen, and the X has a 4.3". All of these have a 1gHz processor:

Also, all of these phones can be had for under $100....

Hope this helps a little....

Well, nothing beats free but, as cardiac noted, there are a ton of better phones out there for under $100. Depending on how much you can stretch your phone budget, you may be able to snag a Galaxy S3 for around $200 once the Verizon SGS4 gets out there and people start upgrading.

Keep in mind that all of the phones I mentioned above are plug and play. They will work on PagePlus right out of the box. Any 4G LTE phone, such as the SIII, will require flashing to work on Pageplus.

The Droid 1 can easily be upgraded to 2.3.7 using cyanogen mod. If its stop I believe it only goes up to 2.2.2 or something. Its incredibly slow since it has 256mb of sdram. Let me remind you that the current iPhone has 1gb of ddr3 and my year old galaxy nexus has 1gb of ddr2 (I believe) memory.

I currently use my OG D (the droid 1) for emulating. The battery will probably be poop too. I'd try to pick up a more recent phone.

Yes, for what you want to do it will work fine. If you want to change to a newer phone later, you can just do an ESN change. I do all my PagePlus business through http://www.kittywireless.com as I have found that their customer service is second to none. A few others here have mentioned that they also use Kitty.... Get on their mailing list, as they run different specials quite often.

This is good advice.

The 4g phones is Page Plus' downfall at this time. As we all know no 4g phones are officially supported and they can be a pita to make work. I used a droid razr on page plus for a couple months and I spent like 6 hours flashing it to page plus. I and probably many others have moved on to other gsm carriers to get around the cdma phone limitations (I currently use nexus 4 on pay as you go platinumtel).

I suppose you could make the og droid work but it will be pretty bad at this point. The best choices that are 3g only phones are the Droid Incredible 2 and the Droid X2. Otherwise go Iphone 4s for Verizon and that is simply not worth the money that it would cost.

I miss page plus though because of their cheap plans and stellar coverage.

The OG Droid will do what you want but it will probably be slow and laggy. But hey, it's free. Try it out and see how you like it. If you can't handle it you can always get another phone and you'll have lost nothing.
