To answer the question, the only real way to be "anonymous" on P2P is through a proxy. And even then its only anonymous until the feds put pressure on the proxy owner to reveal your info.

The actual odds of getting caught using P2P on something like BitTorrent are probably something like 1:10 or so, depending on your usage. The odds of getting sued are much lower. But it's kinda like russian roulette-- you only gotta get busted once to be screwed.

I think for the time being you're also safe if you're just getting tv episodes, I mean that's still a grey area, but the tv studios haven't really gone after anyone.
