if SC was one or two in the BCS, they would have played OU and likely lost, meaning no championship for them

now, since they are in the rose bowl, they are the favorite over Michigan. assuming they win that game, it is likely that OU will beat LSU and SC gets a good chance to share the championship

I don't understand why so much importance is put on AP and Coaches polls. Most coaches admit that they just let their kids fill out the polls. For once, I think BCS made the right call. USC is pissed because they were left out. Then again, OU would be singing the same song if there were left out.

It's easy to blame the system when you lose. If USC is so pissed, maybe they shouldn't have lost to Cal in the first place.

There has never been, nor will there EVER be, a perfect system.
Even those who created the BCS have admitted some changes need to be made.
The long and the sort of it is: Will be a split championship, get over it and just enjoy the games!

Wasn't the entire point of having the BCS to crown ONE national champion in college football?

There was a reason that the BCS was brought about in 1998. See 1997.

If it can't help unify a national championship in college football, then whey do we even have the system? College football could crown seperate national champions without 6 computer polls, strength of schedule, etc etc etc.

Yup. And, like I said before, you didn't need the BCS to have a split national champion.

That's ridiculous. Why do LSU and OU get a do-over and USC doesn't?

I am not a USC fan, but I also understand that they have just as much right to be in that game than OU or LSU does.

It was designed to get the two best teams and match them up. OU and LSU are the two best teams and they will be playing.

The point no one seems to realize is that the human polls weigh losses more by timing than numbers. You get ranked at certain spots because of timing and pre-season opinion. The computers crunch all sorts of numbers and look at overall season stats and oppponents and opponent's opponents. It's wrong that USC is #1 in the polls and it simply comes down to OU loosing their last game instead of their first game. The BCS was created to eliminate this sort of thing. The polls are great for in-season progress rankings, but I think computers make a much better determination of considering an entire season and spitting out results.

No it won't Michigans pass offense is just way to much for USC's extremely weak pass defense which is ranked over 100 nationally. USC is going to get burned early and often by the Michigan WRs, its not going to be a close game. USC is HIGHLY over ranked. They are simply the media darling, realistically they shouldnt be ranked #1, thier schedule does not warrant it. Look at who theyve played(or lack of who they played) and how many teams they played that finished over .500. USC didnt get robbed. IMHO based on how the season went the teams should be ranked like this

LSU
Michigan
OSU
USC
Texas
Miami
Tennesse
FSU
Kansas State
Georgia
Miami(Ohio)

I agree that the timing of a loss shouldn't matter. But my impression, from the very beginning, was that the BCS was created to help unify the national championship. Do you believe that the people who came up with this system EVER thought there would be a day where the top team in the AP and coaches poll at the end of the season would not be involved in a "championship" game?

there's something wrong with the system when you can have a 1 loss record and not have a shot at a championship. To expect perfection sucks because even if it does happen, it requires A LOT of luck (perfect example, Ohio St squeaking out 4-5 wins last year and beating Miami because of a few lucky penalties in their favor). Every team is due for a let down throughout the course of a season.

Playoff is the only answer. Even just the Top 4 teams. It would be AWESOME to see #1 OU vs #4 Michigan and #2 LSU versus #3 USC and then the winners play for the title since it's hard to argue that they are not the top 4 teams this year.

The only thing the BCS got right this year was making the Rose Bowl as it should be, Big 10 vs. Pac 10. The BCS needs to be kicked to the curb just for messing with that.
