Hello Friends,
I've recently installed XP Home on to an Nvidia 4 based mainboard (see sig.) and like many others it seems have hit a major driver problem with the Nvidia USB drivers. This problem affects those of us with early XP install CDs, i.e., pre the SP1a update, who've installed the SP2 update on to a newly installed copy of the OS.
In common with many others I had assumed that SP2 was a cumulative update but it is not! Thus, I'm stuck with a fresh build, install and partial tweak with everything working fine but with no USB2 and minimal functionality on on USB1, i.e., no joystick, no Ipod, no memory stick functionality.
My researches for a fix that doesn't require the removal of SP2 and very likely a reformat and re-install have so far revealed little else but the fact that I am not alone but a member of a rather sad chorus of people who've bought mobos based on the Nvidia 4 chipset and installed SP2 on a system which hasn't previously been updated with SP1a.
So does anyone have access to the appropriate Nvidia chipset driver which can be installed or have a work around for the situation described here
I should add that I've tried a number of recent versions of the Nvidia drivers without success.
Thanks for your attention,
Leporello
I should add that all the appropriate ports are present and functioning in the device manager for USB1 but there are no enhanced USB2 ports listed.
