Ok I had a win98 machine with my zip, and I protected all my disks with passwords, then I got 2k and now I dont even get an option to unprotect it, and they are "undetectable"

Is there anything I can do to access my MUCH needed files?

This was posted in perhipials, but no one bothered to answer :p
Is there software I can DL to unprotect them?

so... your much needed files = porn you don't want anyone else to find? ;)

just kidding

try to see if the drivers for the zip drive are causing the problems. also, if you really need the files, just reinstall win98 on a second partition, copy them back unencrypted, delete win98, and reencrypt them using something else...

Too much work, not to mention its not a driver problem. The drive functions fine, its just that the old software had a "protect" option for disks for my WEB PAGE, so this new 2k does not, not to mention I HATE zip software...

So are you saying you didn't install the latest version of IOMega tools that's compatible with W2K???

what ladies man said.

sure the zip drive might be recognized as a removable drive by win2k, but you'll need to actual software (read: iomega ziptools) that performs the un/protect function.

if you don't like it, install it, unprotect your disks then uninstall it.

Exactly what Ladies Man said. What you used to protect your disks was a function of the IOMega software, not Windows. Therefore you have to install the software if you want to read your disk after you have protected it in that manner.

kru also said what you need to do if you don't want to use the software.

Use the latest version of the software. Some older versions cause problems. You'll find the current version on their site.

Yeah, you can't remove/use the passwords without the Iomega software. I think that kru had the best idea. With Win2K you can format the Zip disks as NTFS which allows far more access control.
