USB vs PS/2 MOUSE

hi.. i just wanna know if there would be an advantage when using USB mouse instead of ps/2... would the mouse pointer moves smoother? etc etcetc

🙂🙂🙂

If you use optical mice, then USB will usually be smoother than PS/2.

However, the opposite is true for ball mice (because you can set the ps2 poll rate to 200 hz, whereas USB's poll rate is locked at 125).

I'm using a Logitech MouseMan Wheel (5 years old, ball mouse, ps2) and I prefer its movement over all optical mice that I've used (which includes the Logitech MouseMan Optical, Microsoft's Intellimouse Optical, and the Kensington Optical)

I have a logitech mouseman on my PS2 and a microsoft intellimouse on USB using a converter, I've found that my intellimouse runs alot smoother then my mouseman, im not 100% sure if its due to brand or what, later tonight ill use my converter on my omuseman and see how it goes.

I have a intellimouse explorer 3.0 and have used it both ways and have not noticed a difference. That said I keep it hooked to the PS2 port so I can up the refreash to 200hrz and so it will work under DOS

They're actually both smooth enough, but USB uses up too much CPU performance, which is why I prefer PS/2. Personally, I use a Kensington Optical Elite PS/2, because only Kensington sells PS/2 optical mice, and Kensington has always been my favorite maker of mice.

thanks... i think theres no need to use USB mouse then... ill just stick to my Microsoft Intellimouse PS/2 then...

Good choice, when I've used USB, under certain circumstances I see lag in my mouse movements - to me at least - this is kinda annoying. Plus I can use 200hz on ps/2 - as well as full compatibility with like dos crap and everything - IMO, optical mice are a step down in technology, except for the cleaning factor, from ball mice. I am not impressed by my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, its not as sharp as my old ball mouse - Logitech Mouseman Wheel - even with its 6000 dpi. Oh well, this is all IMO btw
