USB vs Firewire

I am going to buy an external enclosure.
I have both USB and firewire on my PC.
Is there any advantage with firewire over USB?

Thanks
Ken

firewire is faster, but USB is used more often by far. if you get a USB enclosure its always backwards compatable so you can use it on just about ANY computer.

For your situation, go with firewire. It provides a better power source and is faster. Almost all Macs have firewire.

Why don't you just get an enclosure that has both?

They are both fine for all intents and purposes. As was said, USB 2.0 offers faster speeds. Theoretically. Real-world performance shows IEEE1394 is faster. I doubt the difference would be all that significant however. If you need to ensure compatability against a large number of computers, USB. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter all that much. Go with both or pick one.
