USB Troubles with Win98SE

I've been trying to get my system converted to USB lately. I got a Microsoft USB Optical Mouse and the Microsoft USB Internet Keyboard with 2 port hub. Anyway, I have 2 Microsoft USB Sidewinder controllers plugged into the hub, and the strangest thing is that they don't always get detected. I can't just shut my computer off and turn it back on to get them to work either. I have to turn off the computer and disconnect the power supply and leave it for a little while and then when I turn it back on they usually both work.

My system specs are a Epox KX133 motherboard running an athlon 850 w/ 256 meg of PC133 ram, Elsa Geforce 2, and a Soundblaster Live Soundcard. I've got the latest VIA usb filter driver and all that.

Any tips? I'm thinking it might just be Windows 98SE

I can't help you but I can tell you I have a Scanjet that sometimes won't be detected. The only way I got it to work is to unplug the scanner from electric. Plug it back in and windows would detect it. A real pain! I finally went and bought a SCSI card haven't had that problem since.

Well, my powersupply is one of those 450 watt work horses, and I would think it would be a resource issue if it wasn't so intermitent and random. I think IRQ 9 is the one used by USB, and it is free. Hmmm... the quest continues.

More than likely your devices are sucking too much power from your usb port on the motherboard. I had a similar issue once... a self-powered usb hub may resolve your issues... Good luck... :)
