has anyone tried something like this

http://www.keepgaming.com/ps2/505-01056.htm

I'm running some n64 emulators and possible SNES. i have a ps2 and i love how the controller feels. My local radio shack as something in the lines of this. It has a ps2 connecter, so you can use it on your computer thru USB. To me i feel it will have a lot of compatible issues and what not.

those looks promissing. Its either that or get USB controllers. Anyone have info or anything on it.

Yeah, I purchased the exact same thing off Ebay for $12 shipped for my brother a few weeks ago. Actually, it looks EXACTLY like the one pictured in that link.

His came with the driver on a floppy and it works very well. Just simply run the installation program off the floppy and the adapter appears as a gamepad in the control panel. I plugged in his PS2 controller and it worked instantly.

This is the one I got

I definately wouldn't pay that price listed on the link and most certainly not at Radio Shack. They are probably asking $30 for it.

its like 10-11$ at radioshack.

I had a question on the blue double one you had. can the PC detect if there is 2 controllers or 1?

what OS are u running it with and what kinda of games are you playing.

and can you run it w/o the driver, is the drivers downloadable as well online?

I'm sure the driver can be easily downloaded but I've not tried.

It's on my brother's system, so I can't quickly check. The PC can detect 2 PS2 controllers and I think 2 gamepads show up in the control panel (both having the same name).

He is running WinXP and has used the controller mainly on racing games (NFS Underground) and sports (Madden and NBA Live). I don't think it can be run without the driver since WinXP doesn't recognize the controller automatically.

oh ok good call. I dont think it could be downloaded any where online just because of the unknown maker. Maybe diffrent sellers have them on ebay and all over the net. the same blue 2 port ones all under wierd names. no common ground. I'm plannning on getting this and 2 generic ps2 look a like controlers as well. to play some emulators. i sure hope i dont run into any issues. NFS and madden are like offical games so detecting it would be on a easier level. where as i'm running using it as emulators mainly which could get me caught up.

If you do have time can you please double check if it can detect 2 controllers. Its not really that important but it would be a handy fact to know. Looks like i might just pick up a blue 2 port thing like you. that way i dont need to get 2 from radioshack. Plus i think ebay generic stuff is way better then the build and quatily of radioshack. thanks for the help weasel.

Oh yea. if you do talk to your bro ask him if he had any issues what so ever with it yet. even if it was a quick fix type.

I've asked him several times and he said that he's had no problems with it yet. I know for a fact it has 2 ports for PS2 controllers, so it's meant for running 2 controllers at a time. I'll think to ask him in the next few days to see if there are truely 2 devices in control panel.

Since it's setup as a basic Windows controller, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't run any emulator that supports WinXP gamepads.

Because here i am thinking no one is will thing to try these things out and/or they suck ass. but i guess i was wrong. Good prices for these babies.

In general, these things do work well. They present to the system as USB "Human Interface Device" of the appropriate type, and yes, one such unit may present as multiple logical items. I've seen legacy gameport adapters as well as PS/2 keyboard+mouse adapters work very well in Windows as well as Linux.

I'd give that thing a go.

I have two of the Radio Shack versions and they work well with the PS2 controllers. I play two player games all the time. I prefer these because I love the PS2 controller.

I'm sorry, T2urtle. I've not called my brother yet, because I just assumed you got your answer from the other posters in this thread. I'll try to call him tonight, but I don't think it will be a problem.
