Neither in Front, back, USB 2.0, USB 3.0. It shows up with correct name in BIOS, device manager and in disk management. However, in the latter trying to assign a drive letter gives an error "cannot assign letter b/c the view has changed. please refresh or reboot" (neither makes a diff.)

USB KB/Mouse/Xbox controller work just fine.

Drivers are updated.

the USB Sticks work fine on other machines, Win7, OS.X

OS: Win8 pro

What am I missing? o_O

that seems to be impossible, you say it works on other pcs, and kb, mouse whatever are recognized and work fine.

You also says you see the correct name under device manager, so the OS sees it !?
it's confusing what you wrote.

Also, why would you try to assign a drive letter? OS does it on it's own.

Maybe look for new usb 2|3.0 drivers?

Have you tried manually assigning a drive letter under computer management - storage?

Sorry if my original post was unclear.

@gammaray
I agree. I am really confused.
1. Yes, correct name under device manager. Correct name in BIOS (it is a boot option).
2. I tried to assign a drive letter, because it does not show up in my explorer. It does show up in computer management.
3. I have re-installed he drivers already. I can do so again this pm.
@KingFatty
Computer management. It shows, but right clicking and formatting or assigning a letter gives an error :
"The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer."

I do not know man! I face this problem most of the time and I am very irritated with this issue. I think I have to change the ports now
