USB sound

I have a micro atx motherboard, and I will need to remove my sound card to get a video card cooler. Is USB sound viable for gaming or am I better served to save up and get a new motherboard and processor? Thanks.

Every motherboard on Earth comes with an onboard sound chip, why not use that? It'll be better for performance than a USB sound device, most likely, or at least no worse, and sound reasonably good.

Cool, is there an easy way to switch to onboard sound? I assume I have to yank out the pci card and change the bios, right? One concern I have left is that if I am going to build a new system this fall/winter I can go for a full size atx motherboard which might make my actions now pointless. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes just remove the card and enable on-board audio in the BIOS, and install the drivers.

What sound card do you have now? I assume it's a decent one since you're this concerned about it, but you might have gotten one cheap thinking it would be good to use for some reason, and might be no better than on-board sound. On-board audio these days is pretty damn good.
