USB Scanner increases CPU temp

We recently got a new Canon USB2 scanner.

My CPU temps seemed a bit higher than normal, but I didn't think the scanner would have anything to do with it. But I unplug the scanner's USB from the back of my system (USB2), temps go down to 42C (about normal). Plug it back in, temps go up to 48C (normal load is around 50C or so). (This is the ABSII temp on my Soltek board.) This scanner has its own power cord (isn't powered through USB as some models are). Is this temperature rise normal? (If so I'll just plug in the USB when I happen to need it.)

CPU usage jumps between 0, 2, and 4 percent when I'm idle (scanner plugged in to USB), with taskmgr and explorer being the only two tasks that make up that little CPU usage. If there's a process associated with the scanner, I'm not sure what it is, but I don't see one offhand. It doesn't have any scanner utility running in the system tray.

USB data transfers do use a bit of the CPU, so it could be that your system has some scanner software running in the background that is maybe monitoring the scanner or something. WHich in turn uses the cpu, which will cause the cpu temps to go up a tad.

Would this make a difference even when I'm not in the process of scanning? I don't SEE any CPU cycles being used in the task manager. I don't see any scanner utility running, though there could be a process somewhere that monitors the scanner.

Which one of us are you insulting?
If there's something I don't know, it's why I'm asking, sheesh. Please give your answer, or go away.

Either someone really has pissed in his Cheerios, or else someone's having fun with his screenname. Not many people last very long here with that kind of attitude before they're shown the exit by a mod.
