Ok guys,

About half the time I try to connect my Kodak USB camera to download the pictures, ..... I get a BSOD in win2k. I have USB: camera, visioneer 8100, keyboard, and mouse. I have checked the power consumption in the device manager and it is ok. I have tried to reload the OS and do memtest on the ram and everything else I could think of (even stood on one foot as I tried to access it)........ but it continues to BSOD on me. I have all the latest service packs, via 4 in 1's, and all other related drivers and downloadable updates. I even flashed the bios to the newest one...... still no go........ It has not always done it.......so I believe it is some type of configuration prob, or I need some type of patch. I have tried installing the USB patch (1.10 I think) for via chipsets, but it doesn't help either..... (I am not sure it is installing correctly) (there is some reference in the readme on what to look for to insure it installs correctly....)

I need help before I throw this POS in the yard........

Thanks

what does the bsod say? stop code, etc.

do you have a powered usb hub? if not, that might fix it. the power consumption in the device manager is not so precise sometimes.

or buy a compactflash reader so you don't have to connect your camera to the usb ports (hopefully that won't cause the bsod)

If you have tried the usb filter driver, I would try a powered usb hub, Certain VIA chipsets cannot supply enough power to the usb ports to run some types of hardware (mainly scanners and printers, though the camera might draw too much power) Try unplugging every USB device except the camera to see if you can get it to work without the hub, but I would still recommend purchasing one, they are cheap, just make sure you get one with an ac adapter. You might also peruse USBMan as there is some very specific fixes discussed on that site, just navigate to the via chipset area.

"what does the bsod say? stop code, etc."

It says something about usbd.sys ............ I will try and write it all down the next time it happens. I should probably just get a compact flash / smart media card reader/writer. It would probably solve the whole problem.
