USB powered speakers

Inexpensive desktop speakers powered from a USB port ----how does it access your analog/digital sound signals? Does it matter if you are using on-board sound or a sound card?

USB speakers have integrated sound controllers. The data is not processed by the PC, it's transferred over USB and then processed by the external device. Integrated sound or sound card makes no difference, these are not used in sound over USB

FYI there are also USB powered speakers that only use the USB for power but not audio, in this case the processing unit is wherever you plug in the audio jack. Technically you could draw power from one PC and listen to audio from another
