USB Ports Not Working

Dell laptop, Model XPS 15, there are 3 USB ports.
First question is what is the difference between the one labeled eSATA, and the other two that just show the USB logo?
Second, for some reason only the eSATA port is working. The laser mouse is plugged in and working fine. Likewise, if I insert a thumb drive in the eSATA port it also works. But if I plug either device into either of the other two ports the PC isn't picking them up. Did I accidentally shut something off? Is a driver needed?

In BIOS there should be a menu item about USB controller. If it's a really recent laptop; it may be a selection for USB Legacy; USB2.0 or USB 3.0. Go thru the BIOS and check for USB 2.0 is enabled.
