USB Ports from hell

It started with my old mobo ABIT KT7 I was going to replace it anway since the ata/audio was messed up due to something with the mobo then all of the usb ports went out in the middle of a cs game for no apparent reason. So i was stuck using a ps2 mouse for a week and it pushed me over the edge to buy a new mobo. I had the new one in MIS K7t turbo2 in for about a week when out of nowhere the mouse stops working and i test it out once again all of my usb ports are dead. Could this be software? The things that changed between mobos is that i took out my SB live and got a new NIC. I think it may be something software related or my PSU, any ideas on how i could get this fixed would be really appreciated. Thanks!

I haven?t had much experience with these types of things. From what you say, it sounds like a hardware problem. Have you swapped cards out to see if the PCI is dead? If you are able to put another card in the slot and it works. Then I would say it?s a problem with the USB card. Two MoBo?s, the expensive way to fix a problem.

i know youdidn't list them , but are you using a USB hub or a KVM switch ? they could be shorting out.
good luck

Ok, quick update. Sorry I havent replied yet I've been realllly busy. Anyway, i uninstalled the usb drivers and it didn't do anything. Well tonight i pulled out my nic which is the only card besides my vid card that was in the comp. After doing this when i would plug my mouse in the light would come on but, it wouldn't work. When i pust the nic back in no light would show up. So i'm thinking it was a conflict with the NIC but, the problem is now I can't find any USB drivers. MSI's webiste says to get em from microsofts sp1 for xp i have installed the sp but, it didn't re-install the drivers when it found them missing. Is there anyway for me to get the USB drivers and re-install them? Thanks.

if windows detects the USB ports when it boots it should just reinstall the driver itself.have you checked the bios to make sure USB ports are still enabled? also , is the device manager showing anything about USB? might be in there with an error and if so you can remove it , reboot , and see what happens.
or the MB might just be screwed-up
good luck

I have the exact some problem - my USB ports stop working after a while (but work again on reboot). I ended up buying a USB 2.0 PCI card and I don't use the onboard USB anymore. It sucks and I went through hell trying to find a solution, but I gave up.
