USB Ports broken?

So, I have this laptop I purchased new 2 months ago. Well, USB ports have been working fine until a few days ago.

I plug in a USB flash drive, Windows freezes.
I plug in a USB mouse/gamepad, "USB Root Hub: Unrecognized device"
I plug in a digital camera, Windows freezes.
I plug in a USB A->B cable, nothing happens(just to make sure it doesnt freeze, I plugged this in)

I'm stumped, I certainly hope its not due to a fault motherboard, I have my concerns though. Can anyone else think of anything wrong with this thing before I'm forced to go out and buy a PCMCIA card?

Thanks!

Oh, I wanted to add, the USB flash drive & wireless gaming controller adapter both have LED's which light up while connected.. so it obviously has power.... Thanks!

OK - that's a start. What further does it say under properties, etc.?

are you able to test these usb devices on another computer?

at least then you could eliminate that its not the usb devices as the problem

Something odd I noticed, if I plug in my USB key, the laptop will freeze, no matter what(even with un-plugging the usb key).. However, if I plug in a USB cable w/o a device & then unplug it, the laptop UNFREEZES.

There is something incompatible between the laptop USB port and the key drive. Does it behave the same in all of the laptop's USB ports?

How about connecting a USB extension cable or a hub - and put the key in that?

Yes it does the same thing in all ports.

I connected a USB extension, nothing happens. I connect my Digital camera to the extension & power it on, the laptop freezes again.

Looks like you have something shorted/broken in your laptop's USB port system. 2 months old? Should still be under warranty. Exercise it.
