Win XP Pro(no SP1 yet), AMD Athlon 1400MHz @ 1400MHz, Abit KT7 Raid, Guillemot Hercules Prophet 2 GTS Ultra (Nvidia GeForce2), 2 x IBM 75GXP Deskstar 45.0 GB, 2 x WD800JBRTL 80GB SE (no RAID), 512 MB of Micron PC 133 Cas 2, new Sparkle 350w PS, Lite-on 52/24/52 CDRW, CD/DVD, Zip 250, SB Live Platinum with Live Drive.
4 USB ports on MB, Keyboard has 2 ports.
USB devices
Logitech Mouseman Wheel Optical-USB
Microsoft Internet Pro Keyboard-USB
(attached to keyboard)Nostromo Speedpad, Logitech Wingman Extreme Joystick-USB
HP ScanJet 5370-USB
Epson Stylus Photo 870-USB

I keep losing my USB keyboard and mouse when I play more than three or four MPGs/AVI's in a row using Windows Media player.
I've got an old PS2 mouse hooked up just so I can restart the comp when this happens.

I tried resetting the bios from OS to Bios for the USB and back and going from a 300 to a 350 PS, but no luck.

Is this a problem with Media player maybe?
I'm pretty sure I don't lose the keyboard and mouse under any other situation.
EDIT: just recalled that I lose it under heavy file transfer load as well... typically if I'm moving several hundred MBs to several GBs of data from one hard drive to another.

I do video editing so this is kind of a drag.
Any ideas?

Thanks.
(And yes I plan on upgrading soon. This comp is exactly 2 years old now.)

Funny.....same thing happened with my rig. I have an Athlon 1.2ghz on the same KT7R mb. The usb and serial ports just suddenly stopped working. There is power through the usb because my mouse lights up. There is nothing wrong in device manager. Everytime I did a fresh install, things work again....then stops. Must be a motherboard thing.

I seem to have fixed it in the bios.
Haven't transfered large files yet, but was able to open many consecutive MPG/AVI/WMVs without crashing USB.
What did it for my MB was setting the PCI Master Time-out to 0. It had been set at 1.

BIOS Settings I tried:
Plug and Play OS => Disabled
IRQ for USB and VGA => Enabled
Enhance Chip Performance -> Enabled
* K7 CLK_CTL => Default(couldn't find this on my bios)
P2C/C2P Concurrency => Disabled
Delay Transaction => Disabled
PCI Master Read Caching => Disabled
PCI Master Time-Out => 0

I also installed the newest Via USB filter patch, 1.10.

If this continues I'll install the newest 4in1 drivers, 4.45, and flash my bios up to a9.
But I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.
