USB Not Working

evetytime I plug flash drive into usb ports on my monitor I get a message that that usb device has malfunctioned , the flash drive works if I plug in the pc .

XP?
Service pack 2 or at least 1?
Motherboard USB drivers?
Go to device manager after reinstalling the above. Delete all things USB. Reboot.

Does the monitor have an install cd? (to make ports active)
Do the ports on monitor need power?

The flash drive is pulling too much juice, or the drivers in XP think that it is. I have the same issue with my G15... Check the specs on the drive, and then try searching the MS site....

From Dell:
NOTE: The monitor's USB interface works only when the monitor is on or in power save mode, If you switch the monitor off and then on,
attached peripherals may take a few seconds to resume normal functionality.

I've got a Dell 2401FPW and I have this problem. I have my mouse plugged into it and sometimes when I power the monitor off then come back and turn it on, the mouse doesn't get redetected. I actually have to unplug the mouse and plug back in to get it working again.
I've also had problems with USB sticks working in some ports but not other on the same pc. It does the same thing on other computers as well. That I just chalked up to a bad usb stick. It was a freebie from a vendor and had no name brand on it. I'm thinking probably a cheap knock off.

EDIT: The usb stick you're using, is it one of these?
Saw this one in hot deals for like $4 and warned in the thread that it looked exactly like that no name one I've got that doesn't work well.
