I've got a Dell 2401FPW and I have this problem. I have my mouse plugged into it and sometimes when I power the monitor off then come back and turn it on, the mouse doesn't get redetected. I actually have to unplug the mouse and plug back in to get it working again.
I've also had problems with USB sticks working in some ports but not other on the same pc. It does the same thing on other computers as well. That I just chalked up to a bad usb stick. It was a freebie from a vendor and had no name brand on it. I'm thinking probably a cheap knock off.
EDIT: The usb stick you're using, is it one of
these?
Saw this one in hot deals for like $4 and warned in the thread that it looked exactly like that no name one I've got that doesn't work well.
