Hello,

I am looking for a USB Network adapter that I can use for ghosting of system images.....

curerntly I have some boot floppies with various PCI/internal NIC DOS Drivers that I boot up DOS on, logon to the network, and ghost an image. But these days, the NIC's are getting out of hand so I want to try using an external (portable) NIC to simlify the process.

This is what I hope to do:

1: take new system (desktop/laptop) out of box
2: attach USB network device and connect to hub/switch
3: insert floppy with USB DOS drivers
4: boot and run my scripts to logon and begin image process.

Step #3 is the one I'm looking for help on......are there "generic" USB 1.1/2.0 drivers out there that will work on all systems?

ANY help appreciated!

Thanks!

Souka

note: I already posted this in the Networking forum, but didn't get any results, so I'm trying here now.

Not sure if this is what you want but this thread has a listing like this:

"2 x 10' usb 2.0 cable transfer speed (480mbps) (NEW) connect up to 127 devices w/hubs below 8$ shipped will/trade"

Might want to check with the thread's owner.

nope, but thanks!

There are plenty of USB adapters out there, but I need them to be DOS compatible...aka, they have DOS drivers. All USB adapters I've seen require windows.

Now I know there are USB drivers out there because external HD's from Kangaroo can be access via USB in DOS for recover operations....

Any1 have a suggestion?

I tried to do this once.

There was only one USB to Legacy Ethernet adapter that I found that supported DOS.
It was a CATC-EL2.

They are not easy to find nowadays.

The other problem was that it was USB 1.1 and EXCRUCIATINGLY SLOOOOOOW
when doing I/O related projects.

It was cheap to buy all the same Network cards and replace the rogue ones.

I'll look for one of those to try......

I'd like to replace the network cards but the problem is that my company has become a CHEAP*SS.....they are leasing the cheapest systems they can find......as a result, the internal or onboard NIC's vary. And because they're leased, the system cannot be opened in most cases without incurring a penalaty (this is beacuse they need to be returned configured the same....).

So......if I had a USB, or any sort of external NIC, I could image the systems easily.

from the catc website, I found the EL200 model which has DOS drivers. It's a USB2.0 to 10/100 ethernet.......should be plenty fast on newer systems that have USB 2.0.

Couldn't find it on the internet anywhere, so I have a call into their people on getting buying info....

Edit: OW...a tad pricey...$175 for one...$300 for 2....and so on.

oh well, worth the money if it works.

It's 2011 and I still cannot find where to purchase this product. What is up with this product? Surely others would want to use this product rather than waste many hours with the NDIS drivers that ship with Ghost in the Ghost Boot Wizard; also does it work with all versions of Ghost?
