I have a Microsoft USB Optical mouse. Nothing fancy and none of those extra buttons, just a mouse wheel.

While playing a shooter game or anything where you look from 1st person with a mouse. Often ill hear the USB connection sound (with a short freeze in mouse movement during) in game and the sensitivity will go thru the roof or it will slow down to a crawl where you cant turn.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Another annoying problem is that whilst scrolling in windows using the wheel scrools one bar length at a time. There used to be a setting that allowed you to control how many lines you scrolled at once. The updated windows drivers dont have this anymore.

To make sure it's not the mouse itself, find a USB to PS/2 adapter and connect the mouse to the PS/2 port and see if the problem recurrs.

If it doesn't happen on the PS/2 port then I'd say it's probably something else conencted to the USB bus that's interfering with the mouse. I've seen this many times. I've had compact flash card readers that would affect the mouse until it was unplugged. Even printers.

Try moving the mouse to a different pair of USB jacks (each pair is on a seperate controller). You may also have a USB device that's drawing too much current from the USB port.

Hope this helps...
