USB mouse problem

Hi,

Sometimes when I reboot or boot up my machine, my UBS mouse is not detected by Windows. (98se) To get it to work I have to unplug and plug the mouse back in. Is this a known problem with Windows? I have some friends who complain of the same problem every now and then. Is there a patch to fix this?

Thanks

Is it the only USB device? What mouse is it? What mobo?

I use an MS Explorer mouse with 98SE without EVER seeing that problem.

Yes, I have seen this on an Asus motherboard. On a BH6 with the same mouse it never happened. The USB mouse also seemed to freeze the system sometime on that Asus board. One thing I did that basically solved the problem was to go into the BIOS and turn of legacy USB keyboard and mouse support. The mouse was detected all the time and no freezes after this.

It also happens with my gamepad in the other port. I am using a regular Microsoft Intellieye mouse. Doesn't matter which port it is plugged into. I am using a Microstar amd athlon mobo.

What motherboard? Do you have the lasted BIOS? Is it Via based? If it is, do you have the latest 4in1 drivers installed?

It sounds like it could be BIOS based. The problem is at a low level if win doesn't see it at launch. Flash that BIOS!
