I've started to have a problem on my system a while ago that i didn't have at the startup any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have an intellimouse explorer (the old 1st version) and a gateway usb keyboard with 2 hubs. every so often they switch off. After a minute or two i get a popup on windows system tray sayying usb device not recognised. when i unplug and plug them in again nothing happens though after a few minutes more they light up and are recognised again.
at the same time i have a USb radio and a USB ADSL modem and they never show these problems.
My system is
EPOX 8KHA+
512MB memory
40GB HD, a DVD and a CDRW
Athlon XP 1600

That's a little vague.

What switches off - just the mouse/KB or the hubs?
Is it just a single hub that switches off?
Do you have the mouse and KB on one hub with the radio and modem on the other one, or the 4 devices on a single hub?

Sorry about that... :

Either the mouse alone or the mouse and keyboard turn off completely (even the 2 port hub in the keyboard) they just die.

The board has the 2 usb sockets soldered to it and then i have another 2 pairs that come out of header pins in the board. I've tried to move the peripherals around but to no avail.

Today i'm exchanging my mouse with a logitech USB mouse and see what happens for a few days...

Yeah, that's better :D

Well, it sounds like the problem lies with the mouse and KB, as the hubs themselves never shut off, right? Like you said, I'd try a new mouse first and see if that fixes the problem.
