usb keyboards

I have a friend that loves his usb keyboard what are so great about these keyboards basically what advantages do they have over ps/2 boards and could you please list some web links if you have any on this subject

they're hot swappable and they usually have a usb hub built in. That's about all I can come up with.

Also, some computers, like the frickin POS I'm working on right now, have no-longer-functioning keyboard ports. In this case, USB is pretty much the only way to go.

MWink, I don't know your definition of cheap but for $29.99 the internet navigator keyboard from Logitech so far has worked out quite well for me. I got it from compusa, don't know if there are any stores in your area but Logitech being a big name shouldn't be hard to find. Well good luck and have a happy new year.

P.S. I didn't buy it for the internet buttons I bought it because it was the cheapest usb keyboard they had, but I have to say so far I'm really beginning to like those buttons there pretty handy.

Why don't a few more "standard" keyboards come in USB? If we ever want to be legacy-free, we need to get rid of the old (PS/2)!

I use a Logitech cordless keyboard. Only been using it for about one week now and sofar I like it alot. It's nice not to fight with the keyboard cord's. Plus I could type a message while I'm on the other side of the house. But too bad I can't see the darn monitor.

The USB bus is faster than PS/2 but for a keyboard that shouldn't matter. I would say it's basically the extra USB ports that you will get from one. The only thing though is that it has to take one USB port to work so you really only get an extra one if it has two on it like the MS version. USB keyboards will free up irq's too, but that shouldn't matter now with new OS's choosing irq's for you. Take your pick, I would get one if I had the xtra quid.

I know my ECS K7S5A has an option to turn on USB support for DOS...
When I used a USB MS Natural Keyboard on my Abit BH6, I also had no problems, in the BIOS, DOS, or Safe Mode.

HELP!

The PS/2 ports on my motherboard are dead, and I'm trying to use a USB keyboard and mouse in Win98SE.

BIOS is enabled to run USB in DOS, but I lose both wwhen Windows loads. I was able to get around the mouse detection dialogue box, but now getting stuck when it asks for the network sign-in, and the USB drivers haven't fully loaded.

Suggestions?

My MSI K7T Pro board with USB keyboard and USB mouse works fine in Win98 dos and safe mode.
