USB issues with Vista

I'm using both a USB keyboard (MS Natural 4000) & a USB mouse (Logitech MX Laser).
When booting up or coming back from hibernation, it takes a few seconds before either will work (although mouse movement causes the PC to "wake up" from hibernation & show me the login screen).
After I log in, I get a USB device not recognized message (two, actually), that one of my USB devices malfunctioned.
I have the drivers installed, but just wonder if this is a Vista glitch or something?
Thanks.

thats never happened to me in vista so far.

i'm using a belkin keyboard plugged into a kvm switch and my logitech mouse is plugged directly into the computer. No special drivers are installed for my mouse, keyboard or kvm (am just using the default vista drivers)

I have a somewhat similar problem although it differs a bit.

After the computer returns from Hibernation (not Standby), the USB mouse (MS IntelliMouse Optical) doesn't work. The LED light remains turned off, and there's no error.

If I unplug the mouse and plug it into any other USB port, it works again. If I unplug it and plug it back to the SAME port again, it still doesn't work (no LED light).

If I plug a USB drive to the port that the mouse was originally plugged in, the drive works fine. If I remove the drive and plug the mouse back, the mouse still doesn't work.

A restart fixes the problem. Weird.

I've seen this on certain older flakey USB add-on boards (under XP as well). I haven't wich 'current' chipsets. Is the machine or card possibly a bit older? (Not much to help, I know, but perhaps if its a pci card it can be swapped)

I'm using an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard. 4 USB 2.0 ports in the back, plus more available on the motherboard itself.

The usual questions then, did you check for any bios updates for that board? It sounds like a hardware or firmware issue. It could be the peripherals themselves, but from the symptoms I really doubt it. Do you have a PCI usb board you could test with?

No...no pci usb board.
I tried using the 2 other ports on the back, but got the same results. I have my printer plugged in back there too, but of course I don't use it immediately upon booting up.
Funny...everything is recognized in the device manager. It's just kinda aggravating that I have to wait a few seconds before the mouse & keyboard will work & then close out those 2 popup boxes.
I'll check for a bios update.
