When it stops working try wiggling the cord and see if it starts working. They have been known to develop breaks in the wire. The good thing is they have a lifetime warrenty and all you have to do is call Micro soft and get a new one.

break in the wire?
how come when i use the usb-ps/2 adapter the mouse works fine?
seems to be that it would have to be a problem w/ windows or my mobo.

any ideas fellas?

I don't use USB that much so I have never had this happen but I have heard that in some rigs USB stops working after a little while and you have to unplug the device and plug it back in. That's just what I have heard. If that is the case then USB doesn't sound like a good thing for mice and keyboards, at least if it shuts itself down on you.

I was having the same problems...
I had in the USB port and about after 10 - 15 min the light on the back of the mouse turned off and froze my computer. This happened frequntly so I put it into the PS2 port. This solved the problem for a while but it crept up again and started freezing my computer again.
Because of this...I formatted and put win 2000 on (before i had Win 98 regular). Right now I have it in the PS2 port and its fine.
