USB Hub Trouble

A friend has a Dell Dimesnsion L550 and when he plugs a USB hub into one of his two USB ports, and turns on the system, the computer won't start.

We tried both ports, and using the power supply for the hub and then not using it, with out luck. He's going to try a different hub, but I'd like to hear if you can think of anything else we might try.

Go into BIOS and "enable legacy USB" - I had a similar situation with a system that wouldn't shut down properly until I set it this way...just a shot but what else is there really...
