USB hub freezes system

I am encountering a very strange situation. My system works fine and runs stable until I plug in a USB hub at the back. After running for 2-3 hrs - the system freezes all of a sudden. If I never plug in the USB hub - I never have any problem/freezes and the system continues to work well.

I have tried verifying it with permutations of multiple hubs and multiple USB ports... but the problem remains as it is.

My specs are:
AMD 3200+
Asus K8VSE (with latest BIOS)
2 x 512MB Corsair
ATI 9600Pro
Seagate 160gig + WD 80gig
Dell 2001FP - (which has the inbuilt USB hub)
Antec 430W TruePower
NEC 8xDVD Writer, Plextor 12x10x32
WinXP Pro with SP2

Would somebody have any insights on what might be going on? Am I missing any driver or anything?

any help will be appreciated

thanks!

Is the hub self-powered or bus-powered? What USB devices are attached to the hub and the other ports on your system?

jack - its just the hub attached... doesnt matter if I plug anything into or not.

werk: i believe its a bus-powered hub. the reason I am not 100% sure is I am not sure how the Dell 2001FP monitor in-built hub is powered. The other hub that I tried is surely bus-powered. But I am not sure of the in-built monitor-hub.
