USB help

I have a Stratitec USB 2.0 4 port hub plugged into my Sony Vaio laptop (2 USB 2.0 ports). When I plug a USB 2.0 device into the hub, I get a popup in Vista that the device would run faster if I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port. The only other thing plugged into the hub is the receiver for a Logitech MX620 mouse.

I don't think this is a Vista issue. What would cause a USB 2.0 hub to be downgraded to 1.x?

Thanks. I just figured it wasn't notebook specific. USB is USB, right?
