By my windows 2000 laptop. I have a Seagate Barracuda IV 120GB drive inside a USB 2.0 enclosure. The disk itself works great with my desktop, but for some reason is not recognized by my laptop. The drivers are set correctly, the disk formats are the same (NTFS). In Admin Tools|Computer Management|Storage, it only lists it as a Dynamic drive, nothing further - I cannot access any data on it.

I am sure it is something simple, some setting I am forgetting. Any help is appreciated.

Check your BIOS and make sure USB is enabled. Try another USB device to see if it works. Get latest driver for external drive. Windows update. Check device manager for anything out of the ordinary. Try USB Ready.

I am connecting through a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card, which has the current drivers installed. Everything is installed correctly. The enclosure (made by Bytecc) has software that came with it that automatically detects drives (sits in the system tray) - it detects the drive, but I guess it does not recognize it as a hard drive.

heh... You *do* have admin rights, right? If not, format the drive on your desktop and then put it on the lappy.

Interesting. Apparently because it was formatted as a dynamic drive, my laptop could not detect it. Transferred my essential files off and reformatted as a basic drive, it works great now. Thanks for your help!
