Nice deals and thanks for the links.

The 64MB $34.95 has $6.95 shipping.

Does anyone know how much compgeeks charges for shipping?

That's the same as saying Laptop $2000, Desktop $1000. Trying carrying what you propose in your pocket with your keys attacted... or hanging from the steering column of your car... :D

Well the one with 64MB seems to not need a driver for ME/2000/XP, but will need it for 98. I believe most of these will need driver for 98, but not for ME/2000/XP. You'd use this as a big floppy! Maybe for a system not on the network but need a new driver or software. Take files home from work? See an MP3 you like from a friend, save it and bring it home... Up to you what you want to do with it.

Compgeeks charges for $5.00~$7.00 on UPS Ground Shipping depends on location.
They are out of 32MB thumbdrive. Now, they have 64MB for $38.00
The usbkeydrive.com has special on 32MB for $24.95 a while ago, they might have it again sometime.
Some of the yahoo stores change their price frequently, you might want do a search at yahoo shopping.
Be aware of the shipping charge!!

All the USB DRIVE need driver for win98, however, file size for these drivers are usually small.
You don't need to carry the driver disk with you, just download it from vender's web site whenever you need to install it.
Not everyone has high speed connection, but I believe most of PC are connected with dial-up.
This is a great product, you never know you need it until you own it.

I am a consultant who works with the sales teams from my company to put together very large deals. A few weeks ago about 20 of us were in our war room in our hotel waiting to make our presentation for a $7B+ (yes, billion with a "B") deal. Someone made a brilliant change to the proposal and we needed to move that change over to the two pristine laptops we had brought with us that had nothing on them but this proposal and the presentation. Our war room did not have network connectivity and we all the sudden realized that nobody had brought their floppy drives. So what do you do?

I grabbed my digital camera out of my laptop bag, hooked it up to the USB port and copied the files over. And I suddenly realized that our whole team desperately needed these little USB flash drives.

THAT'S what you use them for. :)

Seems pretty silly to me.

Why not just use IR (Infra-red) and transfer the files.....pretty much all laptops, and most PDA's have them.

Or, since it was mentioned nobody had a FLOPPY drive (1.44MB) you could just email it to yourself. Yeah, a dialup might take about 5min per mb at a 50K connection, but it's do-able.

Finally, $7 billion...yeah right.....anyhow obviously someone isn't thinking.....

I got one of these things several months back. It's a 16mg for $23.00. At that price I figured why not. I only had one computer at the time, but now a friend donated her old computer to me. I really don't plan on netwoking so this has come in handy for moving digital pictures to the new computer. I have WinMe and had to install the drivers on both computers. I would rather have them on the drive itself, but at $23.00 what the heck.

Well now I also got in on the Dazzle 6 in 1 Reader deal. So now I have a way of using CF & SM. It's a blast having all these gadgets as long as they're cheap. Of course if I had to pay big bucks for these things I'd think differently.

You have to watch out for the design of the part of the disk that connects to the keychain. Not very strong, mine broke. But that's OK since I really didn't need it there.

i got the IBM keychain a while back and it has been a godsend. seems like i am always transferring small files, like PowerPoint presentations, Word docs, device drivers, or pics. mine is only an 8 MB one, but very convenient. works no problems with win 2k which is how i have all the computers at work set up so works very well for me. but to each his own.

This thing is a Godsend at work when we need to move Powerpoint presentations or files greater than 1.4MB around. We got 128MB ones cause we always ended up burning a whole CD for just 50-60Megs of data. Plus it is absolutely great for moving stuff between labs that are on different networks. Everyone that I show this thing to wants one, especially after they see how easily it installs on win2k. Highly Reccommended!

compgeeks has 32MB version back in stock. Note that this is old model which need driver no matter what OS you have. There is no driver needed it for most of USB Drives on WIN XP, 2000, ME, and MAC OS.

Here's another store (has it for $24.95 (they charge $11.90 for S/H) justdeals.com

I agree with yodayoda, 8MB is enough for PowerPoint presentations, Word docs, device drivers, photos and other personal essential files. For the same price you paid for 8MB IBM memory key, you can get 32MB now.
Use it and you will love it.

Mambo, How strong are these? They are solid state, no moving part.
I have one (handydrive) hung on my key chain for over 6 months now. Still in pretty good shape and working just as great. However, the surface is not shining any more. All the color coating, brand name, logo were gone.

The usbkeydrive link in the original post now points to a 32mb version for $22.95. No drivers are needed for these on WinME, 2K, XP, of Macs, and they are supposed to be completely hotswappable. Linux support is claimed but untested.

Just picked up the 32MB special from USB Key drive. I got a 6ft USB extention with that, all shipped for $32. For that price, I figured what the heck, I'll give it a shot. I hope it is Linux compatible. That would be really sweet.
