USB File Transfer Cables

I'm thinking of buying a BAFO Tech BF-100C Direct-LinQ USB File Transfer cable for $18 to transfer some files from my old computer to my new computer. Has anyone used one of these? Do they work as advertised?

Can't comment on that specific brand/model; the "Prolific" brand USB-to-USB Bridge Cable does work "as advertised".
Just be sure to check your mfg's web site for the latest drivers.
If possible, try to find a USB 2.0 version, if your machine supports USB 2.0.

I used these years ago before I had a router and network cards in my boxes. They work great but usually need some drivers installed first. Follow the directions and you'll be fine.

I also used one for a long time, no problems. My came with s/w that looked kinda like windows explorer. Split screen and you just drag from one window to the other.

I've used one...a USB 1 version...incredibly slow. A $2 crossover cable will do the same thing, provided both comps have nics.

yeah, or you can also pick up a cheap router ($10 in my case), and hook up 2 comps on a network

I have one of these cables and use it to keep my laptop and desktop synced. It is only usb 1 and it is a bit more expensive than an RJ-45 crossover, but it is unmatched in convenience. It doesnt eat up you ethernet port and its usb so you dont have to mess with network settings. I really like mine.

I got one last year to keep my older system up to date. Being USB it is great but not too fast at transfering data.
