usb external hard drive problem...please help!

i just bought an external 3.5" firewire/usb enclosure...the firewire part works fine from the laptop, but the usb 1.1 on the desktop doesnt. it shows up as a removeable disk, and thinks it's a cd-rom or a floppy and asks for me to insert a disk every time. i formatted the hard drive and everything, even installed the drivers that came with the enclosure, no dice. both computers run XP, anything i'm missing? thanks for the help in advance...peace
 
try to find the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for winxp for the enclosure ... since winxp doesn't seem to be correctly identifying the enclosure ..
